My 2300th pipe in my career! I am very pleased with this piece; I really like everything about it. Some may say it was inspired by a movie with many pipe makers making the shape the character smoked. I have to tell you though; this is one of my oldest shapes. My template for this piece is dated 1989 which was way before the movie. I have always liked this Cutty shape and this piece celebrating the 2300th pipe is a real jewel. It is in my polished blast finish and also has a piece of my very limited Tortoise Shell Bakelite. Considering the shape and the mouthpiece material I elected to make the button as the old turn of the century pipes had with a straight non flared hole in the button. There is a photo in the top view. I have done an experiment on the draft years ago in two of my pipes I smoked. I smoked them for some time with the straight hole and then flared them to see if there was a difference. To me, there was nothing noticeable between the two styles. It really looks cool though and smokes as good as the newer style. To top it all off it is a eight sided panel. This piece came out with a incredible blast, beautiful colors and it is a sitter. Hand cut Tortoise Shell Bakelite mouthpiece w/Delrin tennon, hand made solid sterling silver fitment. Thank you very much for looking.
