Here is a very comfortable Apple with a new finish. I have played with a finish similar to this years ago and recently decided to develop it further. I am very pleased with the results of this piece and I have decided to pursue this type of finish. I am calling it “Flintwood” The photos do this piece no justice but the wood reminds me of flint with its highly smooth and polished surfaces. It is a very cool look and it took many hours to get this far in the finish. It is all hand cut with carving tools and it takes several tools and many phases to achieve this finish. I have my head full of ideas for this new finish and this is the first of the evolution of Flintwood. The look and feel of this is wonderful and it just has that comfortable smooth texture that feels so good in the hand. Very smooth and rounded with no sharp edges to speak of. This piece has a comfortable fishtail mouthpiece and it is a sitter. The Silverwork is new to the finish and I will only be doing it on the Flintwood finish. Not to say it will be the only silverwork on a Flintwood but I will not do it on another finish. As mentioned, this is the first Flintwood produced and it is marked such on the inspection card. Hand cut Emerald Cumberland mouthpiece w/Delrin tennon, hand made solid sterling “Flintwood” silver fitment.. Thank you very much for looking. **Review from new owner**Quite simply, the pipe is spectacular in EVERY way! I love the new Flintwood finish. The facets add a warmth and a feeling of "basicness" (or should I say "rusticity"?) which are wonderful. The pipe has a great feeling in the hand, and I think the proportions are perfect. The color of the stem versus the color of the pipe is striking. And, I very much like the new silver treatment.
You have knocked my socks off,
