Just calling it a freehand that is actually sitting on its own.This piece has a much smaller diameter shank than I normally make and it is very comfortable to hold in the mouth and the hand also. It is a very flowing freehand with a generous capacity, not a small pipe! This had some marvelous graining and if it were not for one small spot, that ended up blasting out, it would have been a incredible cross grain smooth. I have had some requests lately to make my mouthpieces a bit flatter. For some reason since I started making my mouthpieces out of Ebonite I got away from a little technique that I use to use. I once again started using that technique and collectors have noticed a big improvement so I will continue to do this. It makes for a flatter more comfortable mouthpiece. I think you will notice a big difference.
